It’s not going so well for Labour. Theresa May is now grabbing the attention over workers’ rights, too. The Conservative manifesto will include:
a) guaranteeing all workers’ existing rights under European Union law
b) a right to request leave for training
c) measures to protect workers’ pensions
d) up to one year’s unpaid leave for workers who are caring for family members
e) a right for child bereavement
f) increasing representation for workers on company boards
g) a commitment to increase the National Living Wage
h) greater protection for people working in the gig economy
i) changing our equality legislation so that discrimination will be extended to include situations when people suffer suffer from intermittent mental health conditions.
While the devil will be in the detail, these promises are encouraging for workers.
